So yeah, the job interview. I was heading there not too hopeful for a positive result, especially when I arrived at the spot. But more on this later.
Of all the times I happened to be in the subway this month, this time was doomed. I got lost. Not for once have I chanced to go amiss, except that Friday. Luckily, with enough spare time I managed to find the way only to appear from the underground in a place way too out of my expectations.
It was another world. A place different from the rest of the City, so it seemed. Me, standing all alone surrounded by expensive cars and people dressed after the latest fashion, Gucci, Armani walking here and there while I stood struck. WTF am I doing here, in the world I don't belong to? I mused not knowing where to go further.
Damn, the district of office buildings, high prices, and tight purses was not what I had fancied. But fine, shock over, I had to look for the address. Again, it took me quite a while to locate the spot and, if you ask me, by the beginning of the interview I was far from looking fresh, makeup smeared, hair messy, me tired.
The 'Thing' lasted for 2 hours, and I won't go into detail describing what's what. In general, I didn't even hope I had a chance: too many applicants, and me not quite fit for this part of the city.
Afterwards, down the street and into a noisy MacDonald's, and then with a latte in hand I hurried back to the subway station, my cellphone dying, me not knowing if I'll be on time for my train home, not having a clue what time it was in the first place.
The weather was nasty, wind blowing, and despite the sun, it was near freezing. It was not much comfort underground, warmer but very stuffy, and besides, I got lost again, emerging onto the surface with, 'WTH where am I?'
Crap! I had to go back and find another exit to a different area, and when I did - thank god, it's the terminal!
I flew - literally - into the building, checking the train schedule as well as time. WTH again, I had only 5 minutes till train departure and the size of the ticket queue meant I wasn't going to make it... What do I do, what do I do, eyes darting from side to side for a loophole. 4 minutes left... Guess what? Here's when the brash me conquered the shy me - I ran up to the girl closest to the ticket agent's window and pleaded to buy me a ticket. She sighed, but agreed. Yay! Huh, not so fast - the ticket woman said she had to reload the cash register, and slooowwly began to do her business. She did it on purpose, I swear! Minutes ticked away... It's been ages before she finished, but I grabbed my prey at last, thanking the kind girl, dashing out and into the train that was about to leave. My phone kept beeping, the agent needing to contact me asap, but I had no free second to at least text him.
I flopped onto a vacant seat, taking a deep breath to hush the pounding in my head. Saved.
However crazy the day turned out, ain't I lucky? I managed to find the right ways in the subway, plus, got to the appointed place in time, bought a ticket not having to wait in the line, and caught my almost-leaving train. Superb!
The agent, oh-so worrying about my wellbeing (how cute of him^^) msg'd that it was still undecided if I'd passed the interview, and that he would call me the next day after all the other applicants' interviews. I doubted it was a success. I hesitated, not sure if I am ready for a new job, such a sudden leap from a quiet peaceful life to a whole different stage.
If I'm in, work starts Monday.
